Creating a Writing Routine

So one of my biggest writing goals is figuring out a writing schedule.  I don't like just writing "when I can" because I either don't have time, or I find something else that is "more important".  I need to learn to schedule it out during the week.  Treat it as a 3rd job (because to me it is).

There are 2 common times that people write:

In the Morning

In the Evening

Now both of these have their good parts.  Writing in the morning when you're in a dreamy state, not yet awake, allows you to write with little to no censorship, to just freely put your ideas down.

Writing in the evening allows you to wind down, to end your night on a high note, and can get you into a dreamy calm state so you can sleep.

But, I'm not a morning person.  AT ALL.  I have a hard enough time getting up with enough time to get to work by 9:30 in the morning.  Let alone, get up even earlier to write.  I have said a million times that I am allergic to mornings.  It's true.

I'm pretty good at writing after work when I got off at 4 or 7.  But when I get off work at 9pm....that's different.  I'm tired, and thinking about what I have to do "tomorrow" and still need to eat dinner, and try to spend some time with the SO.

And that's when my unique situation kicks in.

You see, I would imagine when you have the same schedule every week, then its easy (or easier) to have a writing schedule.  But my schedule is different week to week because of my second job.

So, my goal is to create my schedule on a week to week basis. I'll mix in some before work writing time, and some after work time, and right now the goal is an hour a day.

So readers, keep me accountable.  Ask me if I've written today.  I'm going to put in that time in my planner, and try to do my best to keep myself accountable.

I work 6 days a week now.  It is easy for me to tell myself that I have no time, or that I'm too tired, but there are 24 hours in a day, and I'm going to make the most of them.

Coffee Shop Chat!

What I Did This Week... This week has been super busy!   Sunday:  Had a meeting at Job #2 suuuuper early in the morning (I am NOT a morning person), and then it was off to church for the Palm Sunday service, which was awesome.  The church was freshly decorated for the season, and the children had a Palm Parade, where they walked around the block, waving their new palms around.  Super cute.  Then, I went to the coffee shop to TRY to get some writing in (that didn't go too well, but I had a delicious pot of green tea). And then I came home and worked on school work (I get my Masters in 2 months!). Workout and Meditation. Monday:  Worked at Job #1 (the library), ran errands, workout and meditation. Tuesday:  Worked at Job #2 (corporate job, ew). Had a TERRIBLE day, but that was made better by these beautiful flowers from my SO: Wednesday:  Worked on my Grad Portfolio ALL DAY (Did I mention I get my Masters in TWO MONTHS??) Thursday:  Got to spend the who

Real Talk: Writers Resistance

So you'll notice in Monday's stats blog that I won't have a lot to write about.  I haven't made a lot of progress. I've hit resistance.  I won't call it writers block for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I HAVE ideas.  I have good ideas. But I've hit this type of resistance before. You see, I've been trying to write a novel forever.  I remember starting to try to write novels in high school, and then for various reasons, I kinda gave up writing all together for a few years, and then fell back in love with it when I transferred to Southern Oregon University.  But, I gave up novel writing.  I wrote (and still write) short stories.  I've published short stories, I make money (sometimes...very much sometimes) writing short stories.  I'm good at it, and for a long time I gave up again on the idea of writing a novel Until I went to library school.  I guess being around all of those novels, and talking about novels, and helping people find n
