Writing Stats for September 26-October 2

Hello everyone!

So I didnt track how many words I wrote each day, but I did write a total of 764 words last week which brings my total project wordcount to 8,218 words.
I do have some goals for the month of October.  I want to finish Act 1 by the end of the month, I'm just finishing Chapter 4 right now and according to my outline, Act 1 should carry me through the first 8 chapters.  This means some intense writing days, but I think I'm ready for it.  Right now I'm a little disappointed with my small word count, but I'm halfway through act 1 now and am a little over 8000 words, so I'm gonna shoot for Act 1 being twice that.  And if each Act is 16,000 words, I'll hit right around the 50,000 word first draft I was originally shooting for, so I'm gonna try not to stress too much.

The reason for the Halloween deadline is because...

...I want to participate in NaNoWriMo.  I miss the frantic off the cuff writing.  No outlines, no rules, just crazy writing.  I also had a really inspiring conversation with a stranger in a coffee shop yesterday about Kid Lit, so I think I'm gonna work on a Junior Fiction novel.  Just for fun.  I may make it my NaNo only project and work on it during NaNoWriMo, as well as Camp NaNoWriMo in April and July.  I really love the NaNoWriMo community and miss not taking writing so seriously.  SO if I finish Act1 by October 31st, I'm allowing myself to participate.

Then AFTER Nano, I'm going to take December to focus on short stories and try to forget Act 1, so that when I come back to it in January for edits, I can look at it from a distant perspective.

I'll continue to blog throughout and keep you guys updated on whether or not Nano will be happening and my progress with Act 1.

I think editing in January will be cool because I can start posting teaser stuff on wattpad (the platform I'll be using) and try to get some cover art created etc.  Gonna start of 2017 in a good writing place.

I really think 2017 is gonna be an awesome year.

That's all for now!

Book Review: The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne

Okay there are so many places I want to take this post, and I'm not sure where I want to start, so I'll just start with cover art and a quick summary of the book: This story focuses on the adventures of 5 Americans on an uncharted island.  It starts during the American Civil War, where 5 northern prisoners of war decide to escape by hijacking an air balloon. After flying through a storm for several days, they finally land on some unknown island. They name it "Lincoln Island" as tribute to their president, Abraham Lincoln. The five are able to sustain themselves on the island, producing fire, pottery, bricks, nitroglycerin (!), iron, an electric telegraph (!) a cliff side home, and even a seaworthy ship. Throughout their time on the island, there seems to be a deus ex machina at work, delivering chests of goods and rescuing them when in danger. Eventually, they find out the secret of the island and the gifts. Captain Nemo.  Yes, that Captain Nemo from 20,000...

Freaky Flash Fiction Friday: "Form B"

Form B "So, is this treatment going to be painful?" Moira asked. "There is a very mild discomfort." Dr. Webb said, leaning back in his office chair. It creaked under his weight. "Some say it is like  slight burning sensation." He smiled. "It's nothing you have to concern yourself with." Moira had been seeing Dr. Webb for the last 6 months for treatment for her eczema. She had spent thousands of dollars on other doctors, creams, and homeopathic remedies all to no avail. Dr. Webb had contact her on a web forum. She was part of a message board community for people with skin conditions. He told her that he could cure her. And he had. His method was a combination of medicated baths, pills, ointments and even meditation.  Her skin was glowing. She couldn't remember the last time her skin was this clear.  Today was her final session. A heat treatment. She wasn't sure exactly how it was supposed to help, but Dr. Webb had ...

52 Dates for Writers #1: Cook Something Luxurious

The first date in the "52 Dates for Writers" book has us "Cook Something Luxurious" Although food doesn't play a major role in my novel, the setting sort of forces me to think about it.  My novel takes place in the "ambiguous south" (or at least the South is a major influence) and food plays a huge role in Southern living. My novel isn't some extravagant adventure story that is going to take my characters into far off lands, it takes place in one little neighborhood in the humble homes of my characters. My characters are middle class. Both parents work, kids go to public school, very similar to my own growing up.  Meals aren't multi-course, fine china events, but they are cooked with love and enjoyed around the table. And while my novel doesn't take my characters on grand external adventures, they sure go on some extreme internal ones. My MC is going to go on an emotional adventure, and it is imperative that my other characters notice...
