Coffee Shop Chat!

What I Did This Week...

This week has been super busy!
  • Sunday: Had a meeting at Job #2 suuuuper early in the morning (I am NOT a morning person), and then it was off to church for the Palm Sunday service, which was awesome.  The church was freshly decorated for the season, and the children had a Palm Parade, where they walked around the block, waving their new palms around.  Super cute.  Then, I went to the coffee shop to TRY to get some writing in (that didn't go too well, but I had a delicious pot of green tea). And then I came home and worked on school work (I get my Masters in 2 months!). Workout and Meditation.
  • Monday: Worked at Job #1 (the library), ran errands, workout and meditation.
  • Tuesday: Worked at Job #2 (corporate job, ew). Had a TERRIBLE day, but that was made better by these beautiful flowers from my SO:
  • Wednesday: Worked on my Grad Portfolio ALL DAY (Did I mention I get my Masters in TWO MONTHS??)
  • Thursday: Got to spend the whole day with my SO.  The weather was beautiful and we played 18 holes at the putting coarse.  I am terrible at golf, but I improved my game by 3 strokes (keeping me at 9 over par...)
  • Friday: Worked at the library, sent emails in regards to the Medford Library Comic Con (I am the volunteer coordinator, so I've been sending LOTS of emails).
  • Saturday: Worked at the library, worked out, wrote this blog!

What I am Grateful For...

  • My SO (Significant Other).
  • My new church community for making me feel welcome and not so much of a weirdo.
  • My BFF for pep-talks and just being there when she isn't here.
  • Coffee
  • Dairy Free Alternatives that are actually tasty
  • Prayer/Meditation time
  • Being able to count down the days until school is over

Looking Forward To...

  • Easter Celebrations!
  • Finishing my Grad Portfolio.  I am on track to finish my portfolio next week, which gives me until April 18th (its due date) to really polish it.
  • Setting up my display at the library.  I got approved to showcase Deaf/ASL materials in one of the display cases at my library.  I will be featuring books and DVDs for learning ASL, as well as biographies of important Deaf people, and fiction works that feature Deaf main characters.  I am very happy that this is happening.

Currently Working On...

  • My Grad Portfolio.  It is consuming my life.  But I can't wait until I can put my novel first on this list.
  • Preparing for the 2nd Annual Medford Comic Con.  I am volunteer coordinator this year so I have been busy making calls, sending emails, and creating schedules.
  • My Haunted House Novel (the one thing I want to be working on the most).

Books I am Reading...

Scriptures I am Enjoying...

  1. Hey B.G.,

    Thanks for participating!

Are you allergic to dairy? I discovered I had an intolerance about five years ago. It was incredibly hard to cut it out of my diet at first, especially because I drank milk with almost every meal. I have found several tasty dairy-free alternatives, though. I especially love Silk's unsweetened Almond/Coconut Blend and Daiya shredded cheese. =)

To answer your third question, I'm a coffee-enthusiast. I can't imagine getting any work done without it! My favorite blend is Guatemala, and my favorite latte is a peanut butter mocha.

I love drinking herbal teas as well, especially in the evenings as I read. =) My favorite tea is Roasted Dandelion (since it tastes similar to coffee, haha), Lavender Tea, and Raspberry Leaf Tea.

And just so you know, I responded to your comment on my post: http://christiswrite.blogspot.com/2016/03/coffee-shop-chats-interactive.html

    God bless!

    1. I wouldn't say that I am severely allergic to dairy, I am lactose sensitive though. I used to just take a lactaise pill whenever I ate/drank dairy, and dealt with anything the pill didn't cover. But, I decided to eliminate dairy for Lent to force me to try some non-dairy alternatives that I would otherwise not try. I love the silk unsweetened vanilla cashew milk, and Trader Joes' Soy Creamy chocolate and cherry Ice "cream".

I've also gotten used to the taste of black coffee now, which is kinda nice because it eliminates a main source of dairy and sugar from my diet.

Though lately, I have been drinking a TON of green tea.

    1. Congrats on your soon to be graduation! Things will only get better. I wasn't such a great student in high school, but college is where I bloomed as a person, a student, and a writer. So good luck in whatever the future holds for you!

Real Talk: Writers Resistance

So you'll notice in Monday's stats blog that I won't have a lot to write about.  I haven't made a lot of progress. I've hit resistance.  I won't call it writers block for a lot of reasons, but mostly because I HAVE ideas.  I have good ideas. But I've hit this type of resistance before. You see, I've been trying to write a novel forever.  I remember starting to try to write novels in high school, and then for various reasons, I kinda gave up writing all together for a few years, and then fell back in love with it when I transferred to Southern Oregon University.  But, I gave up novel writing.  I wrote (and still write) short stories.  I've published short stories, I make money (sometimes...very much sometimes) writing short stories.  I'm good at it, and for a long time I gave up again on the idea of writing a novel Until I went to library school.  I guess being around all of those novels, and talking about novels, and helping people find n

Book Review: The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne

Okay there are so many places I want to take this post, and I'm not sure where I want to start, so I'll just start with cover art and a quick summary of the book: This story focuses on the adventures of 5 Americans on an uncharted island.  It starts during the American Civil War, where 5 northern prisoners of war decide to escape by hijacking an air balloon. After flying through a storm for several days, they finally land on some unknown island. They name it "Lincoln Island" as tribute to their president, Abraham Lincoln. The five are able to sustain themselves on the island, producing fire, pottery, bricks, nitroglycerin (!), iron, an electric telegraph (!) a cliff side home, and even a seaworthy ship. Throughout their time on the island, there seems to be a deus ex machina at work, delivering chests of goods and rescuing them when in danger. Eventually, they find out the secret of the island and the gifts. Captain Nemo.  Yes, that Captain Nemo from 20,000
